Weighing Scale TipsThere’s no science to back it up but many weight loss experts believe that stepping on the scale can help a dieter lose weight. Here are tips about the best way to measure and monitor your weight.

  • Place the scale on a flat surface, so that the readings don’t wobble.
  • Use a consistent scale. Consistency can be checked by stepping on the scale and off it a few times. It should show the same weight each time.
  • If you are monitoring your weight, use the same scale each time.
  • Always weigh yourself at the same time of the day like in the morning after having used the bathroom. It helps minimize variation.
  • If measuring daily, one shouldn’t lay much emphasis on day-to-day fluctuation. It’s the trend which must be tracked. Plotting a graph is useful.
  • Apart from measuring your weight, it is important to monitor your body in other ways – fit of your clothes, a tape measure, how you feel physically
  • Gauge the effect that the repetitive use of the weighing scale is having on you – continue using it if it reinforces your efforts. If it undermines your efforts, do not use it as frequently.
