Clark Memorial to offer weight-loss surgery
Clark Memorial Hospital in Southern Indiana will begin offering weight-loss, or bariatric, surgery this fall for the treatment of morbid obesity.
Specifically, the hospital will offer the Lap-Band procedure, which reduces the amount of food a person can eat by placing an adjustable silicone band around the upper portion of the stomach.
Patients will lose about one to two pounds per week during the first year with this procedure, according to a news release. Lap-Band surgeries typically require a hospital stay of less than 24 hours.
Clark Memorial’s bariatric program will include weight-loss and nutrition counseling and physical therapy.
The hospital will hold a community meeting next month to line up candidates for the surgery, according to Tim Goebel, public relations specialist for Clark Memorial.
